HOW MODIS SEES THE PLANET DAILY

MODIS (Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer) is the workhorse of Earth observation. Two identical instruments aboard NASA's Terra and Aqua satellites pass over any given location on Earth twice per day—morning and afternoon. This dual pass is critical: afternoon passes catch active fires; morning passes detect smoke plumes and aftermath.
